Famous Lunenburg Waterfront scene re-created
Lunenburg - From 1976 to 1986 the reverse side of the Canada’s $100
bill depicted an image of the Lunenburg waterfront which was based on a
photograph taken in 1939. That image featured from the left, the schooner Lila
B. Boutilier, the three-masted barque E.P. Theriault and
the schooner Theresa E. Connor.
On Thursday, 07 October 2004, that image was re-created. The vessels that participated
were, from the left, the schooner Bluenose II, the three-masted barque Picton
Castle, and, once again and 65 years later, the schooner Theresa E. Connor.
This re-creation was achieved through the co-ordinated efforts of the Fisheries Museum, Capt. Dan Moreland of the Picton Castle, and the Bluenose II Preservation Trust. The fishing fleet of Adams and Knickle Limited was at sea, and the company graciously made its wharves available for this event.
It is hoped that the re-created photographic image can be used to make a poster for sale in our respective stores, and to help promote the Town of Lunenburg, said Hon. Wilfred Moore, volunteer chairman of the Trust.
[Indeed, you can buy this poster in our Company Store.]
