William J. Roué inducted into the Sports Hall of Fame
Lunenburg - On Friday,
29 October 2004, the late William J. Roué was inducted in the Nova
Scotia Sport Hall of Fame in the builder category during a ceremony held
in Halifax.
Mr. Roué was represented by his grandson, Laurie J. Roué and his wife Mae, his grand-daughter Jeanne Robinson, and his great grand-daughter Joan E. Roué, author of “A Spirit Deep Within” (about W.J. Roué and his designs, including Bluenose.)
Also on hand were Capt. Wayne A.S. Walters, grandson of Capt. Angus J. Walters of Lunenburg and legendary skipper of the original Bluenose, Kenneth Bell and Hon. Wilfred Moore, volunteer chairman of the Bluenose II Preservation Trust. Captain Wayne Walters, former skipper of Bluenose II presented the Certificate of Induction to Laurie Roué, grandson to grandson. The Trust, assisted by Ken Bell, nominated William J. Roué for this induction, and they worked for the past three years to achieve this honour for the late Mr. Roué and his family.
